NASA Suitlock Exploration

The Suitlock Exploration Project, a collaboration between a team of RISD industrial designers and NASA’s Habitability Design Center, resulted in the proposal of two lunar landing designs with a specific focus on the airlock housing the spacesuits used as a donning and doffing area for extra vehicular activity. Shown here are parts of the research, development, and final model from the seated concept.

Using counter weight to simulate lunar gravity and adjustable test rig suit entry angles were tested. Seated suitlock concept showing entry process. Suitlock entry demonstration Suitlock entry demonstration Suitlock entry demonstration
